The set of Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2001 ready-to-wear collection gave a hint to what the models on the runway could be wearing. Imagine a dirt field with a huge wall of speakers as a background playing loud rock music. We bet that “Mad Max” or any other post-apocalyptic movie comes to mind first. What would the outfits be like? Jean Paul Gaultier seemed to have been thinking about this a lot. Mesh, asymmetry, denim, washed out/aged dresses and shirts, and of course aggressive biker-inspired leather pieces. Just like real flowers blooming in unsuitable conditions, floral prints on sophisticated dresses and skirts were a contrasting element of the collection. This top from the spring 2001 collection not only has a bright floral print, but is also adorned with imitation of real flowers that will bloom and never wither.
